Meta is stepping up mobile video editing with Instagram Edits, launching in February 2025. This move comes as creators search for CapCut alternatives following its temporary removal due to the TikTok ban.
While Meta has a history of strategic moves, like launching Reels after TikTok’s India ban, Instagram Edits aims to redefine mobile video creation. According to Adam Mosseri, it’s more than just an editor; it’s a comprehensive creative suite for serious content creators.

Who Is Instagram Edits For?
Meta is targeting serious creators, not casual users. Unlike CapCut, Instagram Edits won’t have templates, pushing users to create original content. Additionally, it’s a mobile-only app, meaning desktop users will need other solutions for long-form editing.
